Eco centrism – values nature for its own sake, this put nature first not because it can serve human.
Anthropocentrism – values nature because of what it can serve and what it can give humans thereby makes man manipulate nature to satisfy man

Give reaction to this quote by Gary Snyder a proponent of Deep Ecology and author of many books like Turtle Island. In his books he express his vision on how man could live in harmony with nature and all its creatures.

DISCUSSION
Deep Ecology is a philosophy that values every living being regardless of its use. Its core principle is that the living environment as a whole should be respected and regarded as having inalienable rights.
Every living being has basic rights and this is not exclusive to human. The trees, the worms, the grass, the animals. Below is a poem by Gary Snyder
Hay for Horses
He had driven half the night
From far down San Joaquin
Through Mariposa, up the
Dangerous Mountain roads,
He pulled at eight a.m.
With his big truckload of hay
behind the barn
With winch and ropes and hooks
We stacked the bales up clean
To splintery redwood rafters
High in dark, flecks of alfalfa
Whirling through shingles-cracks of light,
Itch of haydust in
sweaty shirt and shoes
At lunch time under Black Oak
Out in the hot corral,
-The old mare nosing lunchpails,
Grasshoppers crackling in the weeds—
“I’m sixty-eight” he said.
“I first bucked hay when I was seventeen.
I thought, that day I started, I sure would hate to do this all my life
And dammit, that’s just what
I’ve gone and done.”
Humans have so much role in the downfall or the improvement of environment. They have to take care of their environment by proper waste management, personal discipline and to be a responsible human beings for all living beings sake. Thus, they have to demonstrate the virtues of prudence and frugality towards our ecology
